Mathematics Co-ordinators' Support Visits

As part of our continuing support programme for schools we are offering a focused support visit for maths co-ordinators.

Whilst the specific content of the discussion during the visit will vary from school to school, issues could include:

- the school's approach to systematic problem solving in mathematics and the use being made of current DfES recommended guidance materials (parts 2 and 3 are currently available in draft form). This is a particularly important area for development, not least because of the marked increase in 'using and applying' questions in SATs;

- possible use of LA produced 'fine-grading' assessment grids;

- effective data analysis including Fisher Family Trust material;

- curricular target setting based upon qualitative analysis of question level data.

A letter giving a possible time and date for the proposed visit is being sent to the headteacher of every primary, junior and infant school.
